DOLPHIN MALL NAMES NEW GENERAL MANAGER
Al Messer has been named general manager for Dolphin Mall, which opened March 1 as Miami/Dade County's largest value/entertainment center.
A seasoned executive with more than 20 years of retail management experience, Messer has spent the last 8 ? years in Stamford, Conn., as general manager of Stamford Town Center, one of the country's most productive super-regional shopping centers. Taubman Centers Inc. owns and manages both Dolphin Mall and Stamford Town Center.
Messer joined Taubman, whose portfolio includes 28 major shopping centers nationwide, in 1987. He served first as assistant general manager at Beverly Center in Los Angeles and then as general manager at Fairlane Town Center in suburban Detroit before taking the helm at Stamford Town Center.
Before joining Taubman, Messer owned a small chain of women's specialty stores in the San Francisco/East Bay area. He also held executive positions with Macy's, The May Company and Joseph Magnin on the West Coast and with Liberty House in Hawaii.
When Messer assumes the duties of general manager on July 9, he will be responsible for day-to-day center operations. He will also work closely with the center's marketing director, its tenants and the greater community.
While in Stamford, Messer served on the executive board of the city's Chamber of Commerce and held a variety of board positions in Stamford civic organizations, including the Downtown Special Service District, the Convention & Visitor's Bureau and the SACIA Business Council.
He has received special recognition for his work with The Urban League and the Stamford school system.
A California native, Messer holds a bachelor's degree from the University of California/Berkeley, where he also did graduate work. His extensive musical background includes professional performances with the Roger Wager Choral and Fred Waring. He has also sung with the San Francisco, Houston and Boston symphonies.
Dolphin Mall is an enclosed value retail/entertainment mall with an 850-seat food court and more than 200 stores, restaurants and entertainment venues. It is located just five miles west of Miami Airport, where the Florida Turnpike and the Dolphin Expressway intersect. Shopping hours are 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Hours for anchors, dining and entertainment options may vary.
